Black Panther 3 sets December 15, 2028 — David Jonsson is the new Black Panther

Wakanda’s succession just got a calendar and a face. Marvel locked Black Panther 3 for December 15, 2028, with Ryan Coogler returning to direct and David Jonsson (Industry, Alien: Romulus) stepping in as an adult T’Challa Jr. — the boy last seen at the end of Wakanda Forever — while Letitia Wright continues as Shuri.

Phase 7 math after Secret Wars

Trade coverage frames the threequel as a Phase 7 pillar after Avengers: Secret Wars closes Phase 6 in 2027. How a grown T’Challa Jr. fits post-multiverse housekeeping is the intentional mystery; Coogler’s stage note that it will be “a large format movie captured on celluloid” is the craft flex — 70mm energy after Sinners’ awards run.

Casting notes still open

Denzel Washington’s rumored involvement was not formally announced in Hall H despite prior Coogler comments. Story details stayed sealed. Expect the marketing machine to stay quiet until Secret Wars clarifies the board — December 15, 2028 is far enough for that patience to be real.

“Today is extra special — Marvel has found its next Black Panther.”

Jonsson’s thank-you was short on spoilers and long on gravity. The mantle moved. The date is printed. Wakanda’s next decade has a theater hold.
