STALKER 2: Cost of Hope locks August 20 — free Update 2.0 jumps to UE 5.5

The Zone just got a hard calendar. GSC Game World locked S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope — the first major story expansion for Heart of Chornobyl — for August 20, 2026 on PC (Steam, Epic, GOG), Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 day-and-date, breaking the base game’s old timed-exclusivity pattern.

Duty vs Freedom, Skif in the middle

Cost of Hope sends Skif into a non-linear arc as Duty and Freedom’s fragile peace collapses. Trailers spotlight Zulu (Duty veteran) and Mavka (Freedom), new locations that “shouldn’t exist,” and choice-heavy faction pressure. GSC is pitching “countless” hours and multiple playthroughs to see the full map of endings.

Update 2.0 is the free hook

Same day, free Update 2.0 (“Sealed Truth”) upgrades the base game from Unreal Engine 5.1 to 5.5.4 — performance, stability, and frame-rate headroom especially on PC — plus weapon/attachment work (Picatinny on dovetail mounts is the meme fix stalkers have wanted since launch). You get the engine bump whether or not you buy the DLC.

“Cost of Hope arrives August 20 alongside free Update 2.0, moving Heart of Chornobyl to Unreal Engine 5.5.4.”

— GSC Game World / July 27, 2026 trade reporting

Six million-plus players already lived the rough launch and the recovery. August 20 is when the Zone’s next chapter — and its engine — both level up.
