Yoshi-P: FF6, FF8, or FF9 remakes would need four or five games like FF7
The remake hopium just hit a logistics check. At Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2026 in Berlin, Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida said a Final Fantasy VI, VIII, or IX project built at Final Fantasy VII Remake scale would probably need four — maybe five — installments, not a tidy trilogy.

Why VI is the scary spreadsheet
Yoshida pointed at FF6’s “immense” scope after Naoki Hamaguchi noted that saying FF6 was life-changing always spawns remake rumors. The VII Remake team has already spent a decade across three games retelling one 1997 title; Yoshi-P’s math is that VI/VIII/IX would be even larger if treated the same way.
What he did not kill
This is not “never remake VI.” It is “do not expect VII Remake fidelity as a single SKU.” Smaller visual remasters remain a different product lane. The same panel energy also fed fan chatter pushing Hamaguchi toward a hypothetical Final Fantasy XVII — praise Yoshi-P called the highest kind.
“If we did remake those other titles, we’d probably end up having to release them in four instalments, or maybe even five instalments.”
