Daily workflows already route through ChatGPT: email drafts, meeting summaries, spreadsheet analysis, PowerShell, code debug, and connector queries into internal data. Copilot is Microsoft’s native answer inside the OS and Office. Many orgs will run both for a while — ChatGPT as the flexible overlay, Copilot as the governed default — and that dual stack is the real compliance headache.
The competitive squeeze
The billion-user badge lands while OpenAI eyes IPO pressure, Google pushes Gemini hard on Android and Samsung’s new foldables, and Anthropic courts the enterprise trust lane after a summer of agent-escape headlines. Scale is no longer the differentiator. Governance, price, and where the model is allowed to act are.
