God of War Laufey locks February 16, 2027 — and Barlog confirms the next Kratos game

The calendar finally has a blade on it. At San Diego Comic-Con 2026, PlayStation and Santa Monica Studio locked God of War Laufey for PlayStation 5 on February 16, 2027 — ending months of “early 2027 / on-disc, so probably not 2026” speculation with a hard date fans can wishlist against.

Why February 16 matters

Sony’s earlier confirmation that Laufey still ships on physical disc had already implied a pre-2028 window. Naming February 16 puts the Freya / Laufey chapter less than seven months out — close enough that marketing, State of Play beats, and a second trailer wave are now calendar items, not vibes. Wishlisting on the PlayStation Store is live; exclusive PS5 positioning is unchanged.

The Kratos bomb after the date

Creative head Cory Barlog did not stop at a ship date. He confirmed the next Kratos-led God of War is in development, ships after Laufey, and connects directly to her story — a sequel promise framed as continuity, not a soft reboot. Panel guests included Deborah Ann Woll, Jack Quaid, Perlina Lau, and Christopher Judge alongside Ariel Lawrence and Barlog.

“The next Kratos-led God of War game is coming after God of War Laufey, and connects directly to her story.”

Whether Kratos appears inside Laufey itself is still open. What is not open: Santa Monica is sequencing a Freya spotlight first, then a directly linked God of War return — the Norse saga’s next act now has a release date and a sequel roadmap in the same Hall.
