macOS Golden Gate Beta 4 hides a Siri AI writing popover — Terminal flag required
Apple seeded macOS 27 Golden Gate developer Beta 4 on July 20 — Liquid Glass opacity sliders, cleaner toolbars, fewer menu-bar icons — and the more interesting story leaked out of Reddit: a hidden Siri AI popover that appears when you select text, offering Rewrite, Proofread, “Edit with Siri,” summaries, and contextual actions like calendar events or package tracking.
How testers are turning it on
The LightweightUI_macOS WritingTools feature flag is off by default in developer beta 3+ and public beta 1. Adventurous testers enable it with a sudo defaults write into /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags, then reboot. MacRumors and The Verge both stress the obvious: unfinished means some actions no-op, timing can lag, and Apple may yank or reshape it before fall GM.

What Golden Gate is actually selling
Beyond the easter-egg popover, Siri AI is the headline OS pitch: chatbot-style assistant in Spotlight, a dedicated Siri app with chat history, on-device Visual Intelligence, Write with Siri, AI photo tools, Safari tab organization, and password hygiene automation. The popover is the power-user compression of Writing Tools into a floating chip — Visual Intelligence’s sibling UI, applied to selected prose.
