Meta still owns ~85% of AI glasses — Samsung’s fall eyewear is the first real volume threat

The face-computer race still has a runaway leader. Omdia’s last full-year cut put Meta near 85% of the AI smart glasses market on the back of Ray-Ban Meta and Luxottica distribution. Samsung’s Intelligent Eyewear — Gemini on Android XR with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker frames — still targets fall 2026, while Apple’s glasses chatter remains a 2027 WWDC story. That leaves this holiday as Meta vs Seoul.

What Samsung has to beat

Nine-hour battery claims, dual cameras, audio-first (no display) UX, and fashion credibility. Meta already normalized wearing cameras on your face in public; Samsung has to normalize a second ecosystem without looking like a Galaxy accessory brick. Pricing stays “premium” with no MSRP yet — a gift to Meta’s installed base if Seoul misses value.

Why Apple can wait

Cupertino’s rumor packet buys time for silicon and privacy messaging. If Samsung ships a dud or a $1,000 curiosity, Meta keeps the category. If Samsung ships a hit, Apple’s 2027 keynote becomes a comeback narrative instead of a category creation myth.

“Meta accounted for 85.2 percent of the global AI smart glasses market last year.”

Buy Meta if you want glasses this month. Watch Samsung’s fall SKU if you want leverage. Ignore Apple slides until they exist.
