Roblox Build turns text prompts into playable games on mobile

Roblox is pushing AI creation into the main app. Build is a mobile-first creation tab that turns a natural-language prompt into a basic playable game — mechanics, environment, characters, style, and sound — without opening a traditional desktop toolchain first.
Public alpha begins July 28 for age-checked users in New Zealand aged 9+. Published games that pass safety review can be played globally by age-checked users 16+. A free base tier ships with paid options for power users; Roblox says more regions follow as the company iterates.
Shared backend with Studio — and Cube
Build shares models, backend, and chat history with Roblox Studio, so creators can start on a phone and finish on desktop — or launch Studio agents and check progress from mobile. Power comes from open-source plus proprietary models trained on Roblox’s 3D and gaming data, including Cube (game-ready interactive objects) and Procedural Models (parametric assets from text or image). A full scene-generation model is teased next.
Professional creators also get agentic Studio tools over the coming months: a playtesting agent for bugs, an analytics agent for plain-language questions, and an experiment agent for engagement and monetization tests. Roblox insists discovery still ranks by retention — AI starts that nobody plays should not flood the homepage.
132 million DAU, one prompt away
With roughly 132 million daily active users, the wager is radical accessibility: anyone who can describe a game can prototype one. Critics worry about quality flood; Roblox’s answer is the same ranking systems that already bury low-retention experiences.
