Wonder Man canceled at Disney+ — Season 2 renewal reversed, writers released
Marvel just pulled a renewal. Wonder Man — the Destin Daniel Cretton / Andrew Guest Hollywood satire starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams and Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery — has been canceled at Disney+, Variety and Deadline confirmed, despite Disney announcing Season 2 in March roughly two months after the January 27 premiere.
The renewal that never opened a room
Sources say a Season 2 writers’ room was never formed. Writers have been released to other projects. That timeline is brutal even by streaming standards: Emmy nominations for Abdul-Mateen (Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy) arrived this month, critics sat near 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Nielsen logged about 618 million minutes in the premiere week (No. 8 among streaming originals) before the show fell out of the Top 10. Strong open, soft hold — and Marvel’s single-season habit mostly held until Loki and Daredevil: Born Again broke the pattern.
Characters can still walk into other projects
An individual with knowledge of the situation told Variety the characters are not dead in the MCU — Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery can still appear elsewhere. Cretton, fresh off Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s theatrical smash, had told Collider within the last two weeks he hoped Wonder Man production would begin this year. Abdul-Mateen’s Instagram response was resigned: “That’s life, right? Everything will shake out.”
“While Wonder Man is not proceeding with Season 2, the characters featured in the series could still appear in other Marvel projects in the future.”

Season 1 remains on Disney+. Season 2 does not. In a week Brand New Day is rewriting box-office records, Marvel’s TV side just reminded everyone that critical love is not a greenlight.
