Feige admits Avengers: Doomsday moved to December because Marvel “couldn’t finish” May
Strategy narratives just got a honesty patch. Kevin Feige told Chinese media in Shanghai that Avengers: Doomsday shifted to December 18, 2026, because Marvel could not finish the movie for its original May date — answering the awkward question of why it now shares a day with Dune: Part Three. Translated roundtable coverage circulating July 22 is the first time Marvel itself framed the move as necessity, not chess.
The breadcrumb trail already existed
Rebecca Romijn said mid-shoot the script was unfinished. Feige branded daily rewrites as “plus-ing.” July reporting had the Russos still finding the movie in the edit, even as Marvel locked a 165-minute runtime and put tickets on sale. Landing on December 18 also surrendered the IMAX footprint to Dune: Part Three and forced the Infinity Vision workaround. Presales hitting ~$16.5M in a day and a trailer clearing 500M views in 24 hours buy goodwill — they do not buy finished VFX.

Five months on the clock
December 18 is now a hard deadline with showtimes sold. If Doomsday shows up finished, nobody remembers the May corpse. If it shows up soft, Feige’s own quote becomes the postmortem lede. Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July 31) still has to clear the summer first.
Infinity stones were easier. Calendars are not.
