Clayface’s official trailer drops — DC’s Gotham body-horror swings for Oct 23
Meet the new face of Gotham — then watch it melt. DC Studios dropped the official Clayface trailer on July 22, locking the James Watkins horror-thriller for theatrical release October 23, 2026 (international from October 21). Tom Rhys Harries headlines as Matt Hagen: Gotham street kid turned Hollywood leading man, disfigured by a crime boss, “healed” by a cutting-edge treatment that returns his face and wrecks his grip on reality.
Who is behind the clay
Watkins (Eden Lake, Speak No Evil remake) directs from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, story by Flanagan. Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella, Eddie Marsan, Nancy Carroll, and Joshua James round out the cast. Matt Reeves, Lynn Harris, James Gunn, and Peter Safran produce — Comic-Con week is expected to show more before the fall push.

Why the date matters
October 23 is already crowded: Ali G: Who Iz I? lands the same day, and awards-season corridor traffic is real. Clayface is DC’s loudest bet that Batman-villain IP can wear a horror tuxedo without a cape cameo carrying the marketing. If the trailer’s body-horror lands in Hall H chatter this week, October just got a second face.
