The Mandalorian and Grogu hits digital buy/rent — Disney+ still months away

This is the way… to premium VOD. Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu is available to buy and rent digitally as of July 21, 2026 — Amazon, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, and the usual storefronts — after a theatrical run that underwhelmed relative to Star Wars expectations. Amazon’s sticker in early listings sat around $29.99 to buy and $24.99 to rent.

When does Disney+ get it?

Not yet. Decider’s read, matching recent Disney theatrical→streamer patterns (Avatar: Fire and Ash as the comparison), puts Disney+ somewhere in the October–November 2026 window — roughly three to six months after theaters. The digital drop arriving a month faster than Avatar’s PVOD cadence is the soft signal Disney wants home viewing sooner, not a promise of an early D+ freebie.

“Before you spend $30 to watch Mando and Grogu do their thing, you should know that we expect to see The Mandalorian and Grogu streaming free on Disney+ before the end of the year.”

— Decider — July 20, 2026

Why it matters for the Star Wars calendar

A soft theatrical followed by a fast digital is how modern franchise triage looks: protect the IP mindshare, harvest home dollars, then park it on Disney+ for the subscriber base that already lives in the Mandoverse. If you need it tonight, pay the toll. If you can wait for the Mouse’s couch, keep the $30 for Beskar-colored snacks.

Whistling birds optional. Wallet discipline recommended.
