GTA Online is free on PlayStation and Xbox today — last chance before Free Play Days end

If you have been waiting for a zero-friction way back into Los Santos, the clock is almost done ticking. Grand Theft Auto Online is running Free Play Days-style free access on Xbox and a matching free window on PlayStation — and both promotions wrap on July 21, 2026.

What “free” actually means

On Xbox, GTA Online is part of Free Play Days: any Xbox player can download and play for the promo window — Game Pass is not required. PlayStation is running a parallel free access push tied to the new Kortz Center Heist update, and you do not need PlayStation Plus just to get in the door for the trial window. When the promotions end, progress typically stays on your account if you already own GTA V / GTA Online; otherwise you go back to needing a purchase or subscription path depending on platform rules.

Why today is the smart day to log in

The Kortz Center Heist just landed (update 1.73), so the free window is not an empty lobby stunt — there is a brand-new art-heist finale to learn, plus the usual pile of GTA Online live ops Rockstar keeps stacking as the November 19 GTA 6 launch approaches. If you have never touched Online, this is the cheapest stress test of whether the grind still hooks you.

Free Play Days and platform trials are time-boxed. Confirm end times in your regional Xbox / PlayStation store listing — they can shift by timezone.

Bottom line: if GTA Online was on your “maybe later” list, later is today. After July 21, the free on-ramp closes and you are back to paying the toll.
