Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 frees MGS4 from PS3 on August 27

Old Snake leaves the PS3 museum. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 launches August 27, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam — finally putting Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots on modern hardware alongside Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (HD Collection version) and Metal Gear: Ghost Babel. Pre-orders are live for physical and digital after the February State of Play reveal.

What is in the crate

Headline titles: MGS4 and Peace Walker, plus Ghost Babel. Extras include a Screenplay Book (in-game text from the premier titles), Master Book (story/characters), digital soundtrack, and a lore database spanning Metal Gear through MGS4. This is the collection for anyone who finished Vol. 1 and has been staring at a dusty PS3 for Sons of the Patriots.

Platform reality check

Day-one parity across Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and PC is the flex — especially Switch 2 ownership of a formerly PS3-locked epic. Expect emulation-era trade-offs on portable hardware; expect the cultural moment on every platform. It lands one day before Elden Ring Tarnished Edition on Switch 2 — budget and disk space both need a plan.

“METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol. 2 is set to release August 27 on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.”

Kept your PS3 only for MGS4? August 27 is the day you can finally unplug it.
