Shift at Midnight clocks in today — day-one Game Pass co-op horror at the gas station

The night shift just got existential. Shift at Midnight — the viral co-op detective horror about stocking shelves while hunting doppelgängers — launches today, July 22, 2026, on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Cloud, Xbox on PC, and Steam. Xbox put it on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass day one. That is the correct call for a game built to scream at your friends over proximity chat.

Official trailer — randomly generated shifts, human-or-not interrogations, then barricades if you guess wrong.

What you are actually doing

Up to three players run a gas station across randomly generated shifts. Stock shelves, hit quotas, take deliveries — and interrogate every customer, because some of them are only pretending to be human. Miss a doppelgänger and they come back later as something that wants the night crew dead. Board up. Lay traps. Hide. Proximity chat does the rest.

“Work together across randomly generated shifts to investigate your customers. Some of them are not what they seem.”

— Xbox Wire — Game Pass Wave 2 (July 21, 2026)

Platform notes

Xbox Play Anywhere is in. Crossplay between Xbox and Steam is not at launch — queue with the platform you install on. Solo works; co-op is the pitch. A post-launch content drop is already promised with new customers, enemies, and weapons for Story and Endless modes. Endless Mode itself is sketched for later in 2026.

If your Game Pass queue needed a reason to stay up past midnight, the doppelgängers just clocked in. Tip well. Check IDs twice.
