Super Mario Sunshine hits Nintendo Switch Online August 13 — Switch 2 + Expansion Pack only

FLUDD is back on the subscription. Nintendo has locked August 13, 2026 as the day Super Mario Sunshine joins the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics library on Switch 2 — the tropical 2002 platformer that has been trapped behind delisted 3D All-Stars carts and scalper pricing for half a decade.

The fine print that matters

Two gates, no exceptions: a Nintendo Switch 2 console and an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. Standard NSO cannot play it. Original Switch hardware cannot play it. The GameCube Nintendo Classics app is Switch 2 exclusive, shipping save points, remappable controls, and cleaned-up image quality for supported titles — Wind Waker, F-Zero GX, Soulcalibur II, and Super Mario Strikers already sit in the same cabinet.

Emulation, not 3D All-Stars

Nintendo’s trailer presents Sunshine in 4:3 GameCube framing. This is not the widescreen polish from Super Mario 3D All-Stars — the limited 2020 collection Nintendo yanked from digital shelves in March 2021. For Switch 2 owners who never bought All-Stars, August 13 is the first legal soft landing. For collectors who already own the cart, the subscription copy is convenience, not an upgrade.

“Super Mario Sunshine joins Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics on August 13 for Switch 2 owners with Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.”

Mark the calendar. Isle Delfino is finally a download away — if you already paid for the console and the higher tier.
