Masters of the Universe skips the usual wait — He-Man hits Prime Video today

Eternia is done waiting for a second theatrical life. Amazon confirmed Masters of the Universe — Travis Knight’s live-action He-Man swing — lands on Prime Video today, July 22, 2026. That is a short hop from theaters for a film that scored a respectable ~67% critics / ~86% audience split on Rotten Tomatoes and still only banked roughly $113 million worldwide against a production budget reported near $200 million.

Why the fast Prime drop
Polygon and trade coverage frame it as Amazon skipping the usual digital rental window and going straight to the subscription couch — the same playbook streaming platforms use when theatrical math does not justify a long exclusive run. Critics were kinder than the box office; audiences who showed up liked it more than the gross suggested. Prime is betting the missing audience was never going to buy a ticket.
“Amazon announced Monday that director Travis Knight’s underappreciated sci-fi film will come to Prime Video on Wednesday, July 22.”

SignalSpawn take
Franchise archaeology is ugly in 2026: big IP, big budget, soft opening, then a streamer tries to rewrite the narrative with home viewing. If you skipped He-Man in IMAX because the tracking looked radioactive, tonight is the cheap redo. Power sword optional. Judgment not.
By the Power of Grayskull — and a Prime login — you have the power to check whether the movie was better than its opening weekend.
