Mortal Kombat II fatality-dates HBO Max for July 24 — 78 days after theaters

Get over here — to the living room. Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed Mortal Kombat II hits HBO Max on Friday, July 24, 2026, then HBO linear Saturday, July 25 at 8:00 p.m. ET. That is 78 days after the May 8 theatrical — shorter than the usual ~90-day prestige window, which is corporate code for “the box office needed a rematch.”

Why the calendar flexed

ScreenRant and MovieWeb both read the accelerated date as a response to underwhelming theatrical grosses. The film has been on premium VOD since June 9; physical media lands July 28. Stacking Max + disc in the same week is the classic “make the numbers look less fatal” combo. Competition that weekend in theaters is thin on new wide releases — which helps a streamer more than an empty multiplex.

“Appropriately for the film’s action-packed content, the streaming version will feature an option to watch with a variation on American Sign Language called Visual Vernacular.”

Who is in the cast

Simon McQuoid returns to direct from a Jeremy Slater script. Karl Urban headlines the sequel push that was supposed to broaden the 2021 reboot’s base. Whether Max turns theatrical shrug into living-room fatality is the July 24 question — right as Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s final marketing week starts eating oxygen.

Finish him on the couch. The arcade cabinet can wait until the disc arrives four days later.
