Toy Story 5 sits at ~$958M worldwide — less than $50M from the billion-dollar club

Woody and Buzz are doing what sequels are supposed to do in 2026: print money without apology. Five weekends after its June 19 opening, Toy Story 5 is sitting on roughly $958 million worldwide — about $41–50 million shy of the billion-dollar line, depending on which weekend snapshot you trust.

The numbers
Domestic cume is around $430–431 million; international is roughly $527–528 million across 50+ markets. The film opened to a franchise-best $159.7 million domestic / ~$310 million global weekend — the biggest opening frame of 2026 so far, ahead of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s launch. Legs have been orderly rather than catastrophic: mid-50% drops early, then a sharper hold into weekend five even as Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey ate adult screens.
“Proving that old toys can learn new tricks while reckoning with an era of endless screen time, Toy Story 5 largely sidesteps franchise fatigue…”
— Rotten Tomatoes critics consensus (Certified Fresh, ~92%)
What the movie is actually about
Directed by Andrew Stanton with Kenna Harris co-directing, Toy Story 5 reunites Tom Hanks and Tim Allen as Woody and Buzz for a story about playtime under siege from Lilypad — a smart tablet (voiced by Greta Lee) with opinions about what Bonnie needs. Conan O’Brien voices Smarty Pants; the usual gang (Jessie, Forky, et al.) returns. Randy Newman scores his fifth Toy Story feature. Production budget was reported near $250 million — already long cleared.
Franchise context
A $1B finish would make Toy Story 5 the third film in the series to join that club after Toy Story 3 and 4, and put it in contention to become the franchise’s highest earner. Current tracking sketches a $1.05–1.2B finish — which would also park it among Pixar’s all-time top three behind Inside Out 2 and Incredibles 2. Critic score (~92%) is the lowest of the theatrical Toy Story run, which has not slowed families from buying tickets.
Box office figures move daily. Treat $958M / sub-$50M-to-$1B as the mid-July 2026 snapshot reported across Box Office Mojo and trade roundups — not a studio press release.
Summer 2026 already has Mario Galaxy and the Michael Jackson biopic Michael in the billion club. Toy Story 5 is about to make it three. The toys are not done yet — and neither is the counter.
